Jackie (@divathatateny) and I participated in this summer’s virtual Pie Party. I made a Mango Coconut Cream Pie to share online with everyone, but only M and I got to actually savor the delectable tropical sweetness.
Ever since July, Jackie and I have wondered if such an event happened could work not just virtually but in first life, too. What an amazing experience it could be. Tomorrow we’ll find out—on Saturday, Oct 15, over 60 food bloggers, writers, and pie enthusiasts will come together for our very first Pie Party Live (#PiePartyLive).
Each person will bring something to the harvest table to share. There will be sweet and savory, chocolaty and cheesy, nutty and creamy, gluten-free and even somewhat healthy pies, tarts and all their cousins.
A month ago, Jackie picked her concord grapes and since we both were in the midst of planning the party, we got together to make pies. We slipped the skin off the grapes, stirred the pot with bubbling sugar, and strained the concentrated grape essence into the pie crust. We baked it up and found a fine flakey old-fashioned dessert. Though I was pleased with the Concord Grape Pie, there was still room to evolve. So, there will not be a recipe included now, but I promise I will post it as soon as I’m 100% satisfied with the recipe.
So for Pie Party Live, I have prepared two different versions of pie, a savory Apple-Onion Galette and a Double Chocolate Dulce de Leche Tart.
For those of you who won’t be attending, I will do a round-up post of the event and share the impressions of the pies that I’ll be lucky enough to sample.
